About Sonja Varelman

Sonja graduated with a BS Biology with a Minor in Chemistry from Utah State University, and later a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of Utah . Her back ground made a key essential role in the quality assurance we are able to provide our clients. She has an extensive background in laboratory testing and research, originating from early in her career at Myriad Genetics working as a quality manager in the R&D core.  Sonja solved many quality related issues, as well as clarified complicated problems revolving around the chemistry and programming that was used for the robotics.  This experience made her well versed in the clinical testing area bringing in new technologies and ensuring method transfer to the technicians.  Sonja also maintained the requirements of testing in a clinical system making her an important part of the quality team. 

After many years in the laboratory environment, Sonja began another career in the field of nursing as a nurse manager just after a few short years while working as a clinical nurse. Sonja was well involved in all regulatory aspects in clinical Nursing.  Sonja later became a manager over Medicare and Medicaid, which pertained to following state and federal regulations. During this time, Sonja led many projects that enhanced daily quality assurance activities, such as extensive record keeping, patient care and data logging. She was responsible for leading reulatory audits, where a years’ worth of data would be used to report the overall functionality and quality of patient care by the establishment. 

Sonja’s attention to detail and quality minded focus, led KML Laboratories to obtaining ISO accreditation.  This task involved interpreting the ISO 17025 certification requirements, and crucial planning and execution of putting everything in place. Under Sonja’s Direction, KML Laboratories has complete traceability of their quality testing program.
