Salmonella
Salmonella is a group of bacteria, known to be one of the most common causes of food poisoning in the United States. This bacterium has been known to be able to survive desiccation and can persist in dry environments for years. Salmonella has also been found to be able to persist in a bathroom setting for weeks following contamination, and is frequently isolated from water sources, which can act as bacterial reservoirs and may assist to facilitate transmission between contaminations. Our microbiologists here at KML, are equipped with all the tools necessary to find this culture if present. Using methods, located in FDA BAM chapter 5, we are able to enrich for salmonella species for detection, and further streak these suspects onto selective augers. All tests performed at KML are conducted with a negative control to ensure the best results.
