Spoilage and contamination of products can often be linked back to molds. Some molds create mycotoxins that make their way into manufactured products, contaminating it with their colonies. In the case that these mold colonies are in a dense enough quantity, they can cause chronic poisonings. Yeasts within product may alter or diminish the products quality and stability, leading to significant corrective implications for food and other consumable producers.
Yeasts, molds, and other mycotoxins are a large and diverse group of microscopic foodborne fungi that include several hundred species. The ability of these organisms to attack many foods is due in large part to their relatively versatile environment requirements. Our microbiologists are able to locate this fungi variety and produce a count on sampled products. Knowing the count of fungi in a sample is important, as high counts can impact the quality of a product as well as the health of a consumer.
